preggy or not

i rode the MRT once again this afternoon on the way to ayala and on my way home. since i rode from quezon avenue station, i got the chance to sit. and also i do the round trip on the way home (meaning i rode in ayala going to taft then didn't leave the train). whenever i'm lucky to be seated (and not sleeping. hehe), i always look around if there is a pregnant woman. because if i see one, i would stand up and ask het to sit down. hello?? what if she'll give birth that instant coz of stress on standing. and she's carrying a heavy load, so make her comfortable. anyway, awhile ago i was debating with myself if the lady standing infront of me is pregnant or not. if she has a baby or she only has a big tummy. hehe. bad! but honestly, i am always troubled because the one standing could be pregnant. but i'm embarassed to let her sit and find out that she only has a big tummy. it would be an insult for her. *sigh* how will i know if there's really a baby inside?

I feel guilty reckoning that day when I totally dismissed a preggy woman...well, she was a little bit far away but I should acted out of necessity. On your last post, well, I pray that the best is yet to come with your relationship to your Pop. I'm just lucky that my Dad and I have a great relationship and I will never trade it for anything.

I was just watching a documentary about pregnant women commuting in Japan. The Japanese govt launched a campaign that meant to identify pregnany women in a public traspo ( e.g. buses, trains, etc).

They have this keychain that they attach to their bags or themselves ( more like a wrist band) so other commuter can identify them and offer their seats if they want. Now isn't that cool?

tin-tin said...

really? wow! honestly, i was thinking kanina that maybe the pregrnant women can enter one specific door so they'll be identified, and the car is really for them. hehehe ;p

yep, the lady would be embarrassed if she was not preggy and just had a big tummy, and you offered her your seat. remember that commercial where the lady looked too old for her age, and a guy offered her his seat, and she felt insulted. i forgot what that commercial was about... vitamins? :)

Haha! Pero kapag preggy, ibang usapan na iyon.

Anyway, minsan lang naman ako masama. Minsan naman kasi, antukin ako at biglang nakakatulog pag-upo. LOL. (Palusot.. haha!)

Joke lang. Mabait naman ako sa LRT.

Paano malalaman kung preggy ang isang tao? Titigan mong mabuti ang tiyan niya, kapag may bumukol, naku, buntis yun. (Sumipa yung bata...)

Haha! Wala akong kwenta. LOL.

hmmm.. i dont know either.. look at her boobs? see if its growing too... or feet edema? i dunno hehehe

j said...

same here, dunno how. so just to be safe, let them take the seat, that way you won't feel guilty in case the woman is really pregnant di ba?

I like Duke's idea of a keychain.
I never sit in the MRT so I don't need to stand up to give my seat to someone else. But I guess that when the time will come that someone will offer his/her seat I will not be so happy...

carey: yup that's for a vitamin. insulting diba? what's worse if she'll get called a manang diba? :)

racky: does that mean "i'm pregnant?" that's what i'll tell my parents if i'll get pregnant. hehehe ;p

jhed: wushu! aminin mo nang ayaw mo lang magpaupo. joke! hehehe ;p

tin-tin said...

yuri: what if she has naturally big boobs? :)

jairam: won't they? a fellow lady offering them a seat? hmmm... it would seem there's something wrong with them :)

sidney: good thing i don't know how you look like. coz if ever i'll chance on you in the MRT, i'll let you take my seat. hehehe ;p

When i read the first lines of your post, I thought naghahanap ka ng preggy dahil you want to see if bagay ba sa yo ang ganu-n... hehehe.

I don't know about anybody else but i think pregnant women are mostly swollen everywhere... Especially what they call as "elephant's feet."

hehe! had that same experience too aboard the MRT. Her tummy was really somewhere in between "pregnant" or "bundat" lang. Buti na lang, I was sleepy din that time kaya itinulog ko na lang. hehe! i agree, it's either you do a favor or you render an offense. :(

I never sit down in an MRT unless there are only a few people onboard. Besides, I like to look at the sceneries outside the train while it's moving.

ang bait naman nun. hehe. paano pag matanda? deadma lang? lol

tin-tin said...

rey: i don't think i want to see myself now as pregnant. hehe. hmmm.. you have the same reply with yuri. i'll now check the feet na rin. hehe ;p

mai: hahaha. excuses.. so mai, no suggestions to be able to know which is which :)

tin-tin said...

snglguy: i also look at the sceneries. but i need to sit down. i don't have any sense of balance. hehehe ;p

ralpht: syempre pag matanda din. siguro naman obvious na kung matanda tlga o mukhang matanda? hehe ;p

Tani said...

ang bait mo naman! when i was 7 or 8 months pregnant and i took the mrt, nobody bothered to offer me his/her seat. i haven't lost all the post-preggy flab, but still nobody bothered to offer me his/her seat. :( siguro if somebody did, hindi ako maiinsulto. it will be highly appreciated kahit that person thought i was preggy when in fact i'm not. ok lang offer seat. basta don't mention anything about the protruding tummy.

Abaniko said...

whether pregnant or not, the safest thing to do is offer her the seat (with a smile). that's good karma. :)

It think you should look at younger women with a belly bigger than normal. That's as close as you can guess. If the woman looks like she's in her forties.. well.. she must be pot-bellied - no need to give up your seat. :)

vic said...

Is she or is she not? Well, maybe we are not good at figuring this condition, so our public utilities figured it for us. it set aside seats for pregnant women and for physically disabled and you not only get a dirty look if you grab one but you could get fine too. so if you want to take a seat every time on your subway trip, stuff some cushion on your tummy, and act accordingly.

I am not good at these things,I am always wrong. He!He!He!,
Wish you well

Haha. I just see to it that I have the most comfortable seat on the MRT and sleep.

Luckily Sassy Girl (My Sassy Girl 2000) is not around...

You got me worried for a moment there Tin. When I read the title, I thought it was you. :)

Oh my tin, you are really a gentlewoman. I am also like that looking for elder people and also preggy women so I can offer my seat to them.

Anonymous said...

gentlewoman -- I suppose. :-) nice choice of words for a nice person, I guess. hehehehe.

But really, that's quite a sweet and sour dilemma you've had tin. Torn between making the lady comfortable or insulting her.

On the practical side, it shouldn't be your fault if she was pregnant and she gave birth. She's not supposed to be on the train if she's pregnant anyway. She should have just stayed home or rode on a taxi, or had her husband bring a small chair for her wherever she goes. If the reason was "no budget" then it still is her(his husbands) fault. Not that I'm inconsiderate, but people who marry or bears a child either accidentally or intentionally in marriage should be well aware of the consequences -- with some exceptions, those who get married and bears a child should be ready for the budget that accompanies with it. They should be able to afford at least a taxi, or a car. Otherwise, stay where you are. Don't get into a responsibility that you can't handle, physically -- and most importantly, financially. :-)

Look before you leap. :-) Sorry tin, this is a little long. I really despise seeing women having a hard time in public -- either bearing a child, or carrying a baby -- especially in the absence of their husbands who are supposed to be always there in the first place. They deserved better. Were it not for poor planning... as usual.

See you around! :-)

Tin, yung preggy na babae malalaman mo kasi laging nakahawak sa tummy nya, natural na reaksyon yun ng totoong buntis, to protect the baby, lalo sa mga crowded places na ganyan. You will know what I mean pag naging preggy ka na rin...hehehe.

tin-tin said...

tani: bad yung mga nakakasabay mo. it's not that i'm being nice, kse super konti na lang ng mga gentleman (sorry guys)

abaniko: i think that's what i'll start to do now :)

bw: hahaha. but that's a nice observation. now i have an idea. hehe ;p

vic: here, mrt has a train for elderly, women, children, pregnant and disabled people. and even if there's a specific train for them, those who need to be seated, can't sit.

zingtrial: really? hahaha :)

neil: hahaha. my sassy girl, the movie? neil, if ever makasabay kita, i'll be the sassy girl. hahaha ;p

bryan: hahaha. hi bryan :)

toe: hahaha. that would be impossible :)

charles: gentlewoman ha. hehe. that's nice of your charles offering your seat. how's your vacation? :)

tin-tin said...

sc: easy... your blood pressure. hehehe. maybe she wants to take a cab but it'll be expensive especially with the manila traffic. even if they have a budget for it, it would really be costly. and maybe she'll have a hard time getting a cab if she lives in qc and works in makati

ann: really? hmmm... now i know. thanks ann. sana two to three years from now, i'll know what you mean. hehe ;p

I remember once asking a friend's wife if she was pregnant (she had a bit of belly and a nice glow) - sadly I was wrong. I felt really bad.

Marckyz said...

nice question here, i guess you ask her to accompany you to the comfort room then give her a pregnancy test. haha! joke lng po. btw, seriously, kung di naman malaki yung tummy nya better not to worry kasi di naman mangaganak yung ganung kaliit. yung mga 7-9 months halata mo naman yun dba? pero kung matanda na sya, better not to worry also. kung bata pa malamang bading yun! :) hit me back gurl!
