The Power of the Internet

we all know how internet can help us - keeping in touch research, etc. but it can also destroy one. video scandals, etc.

this week the kpop (korean pop - yeah! i'm addicted to it now) world had gone fiasco because of a comment made by one of the idols to his friend on myspace four years ago when he was still a trainee and new in the country.

a lot of koreans got mad. there had been petitions for him to leave, but the worst is having a petition of him to commit suicide. and 3,000 signed that petition. what happened next? well, he quit not just being the leader of the group but he quit the group itself, and went back to america where his family resides.

it's just sad that someone who has a lot ahead of him had his career ended like that. and it just proves, that netizens can really affect one's life. there had been a number already who committed suicide because of harsh comments from the netizens.

and also, it shows how public your posts are on the internet. i remember my dad getting mad at me because of an entry i've posted in my blog (yes, my dad reads my blog. pa, don't deny it, i even saw you once. hehe).

and i remember reading somewhere that some companies search the internet for information on applicants.

so, my dear blogsy friends.. remember, that what you write can either make you or break you. what you write might not be of significance for you in the present, but we'll never know for another person, nor in the future.

and for those who read negative comments that affects them, don't make it affect you negatively. learn from it, prove to them your worth.

and for the kpop idol, just hang in there. coz a lot of people still believes in you.

Yes, the internet has really grown big and has affected the lives of all net users. I agree with you that we should not be rattled by negative comments. We try to analyze whether the comment has any basis or whether the commenter was just bent on destroying somebody else's reputation. The safe thing is never to blog controversial topics or very personal matters that can later be used against the writer. It's cute that your own dad reads your blog. Must be a fan of you too, hehehe, lol. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

the real power in the internet lies not in the blogger but in the hands of the telemarketer who can readily identify the strengths and weaknesses of his potential customers, thanks to the blogger's tendency to volunteer private info by answering personal questions in the guise of memes.

Facebook is a greatest when it comes to social engineering but I've heard of people negatively affected by it. It is also known that employers check the applicant's facebook to verify if he/she is telling the truth in the resume and check the person's hobbies and activities hehe :)

Yes the net is great and I wish it will remain forever but we must be very careful in how we expose ourselves !

The Internet is a very powerful tool that you can use it according to what you really want it to be. As for me, a new member of the family comes in because of the power of the Internet. Hehehe :D

Internet is a jungle exponentially. It's been much uncontrollable. I guess the only way for some damage control is to at least be wary of the information we disseminate.

I would not be able to live without internet anymore...
I don't give much personnal information away on the internet... you never know how this information will be used.

Well, I don't know what this particular scandal is about, so I don't know if the anger is legitimate or not, but ...

I often find people to be multi-faced. Showing one face to some people, another to others. What I find most surprising is how confident or secure they feel in doing "bad" stuff - as if this was just some intimate secret between them and 400 of their "closest friends".

Personally, I prefer to be the same person every where, every time - so there shouldn't be any skeletons falling out of my closet.

I think Seneca gives good advice: "Live your life in such a way that is asked what you are thinking right now, you can answer without hesitation and without embarrassment."
